Report on Injuries: Andersen Addresses The Press

RALEIGH, North Carolina – Frederik Andersen talked with media after Wednesday’s PNC Arena practice, his first since being told he had a blood-clotting problem.

When he returned to the team’s skates last week, the man in the locker room who went by “Zilla” was overjoyed.

“I’ve got to start by saying I appreciate the patience through this last little time,” Andersen said. “Obviously, these have been frightening moments, but happily, the team, the nearby physicians, and my family have all provided me with a great deal of support. My coworkers have been really helpful, and I am grateful for their support.”

He’s glad to be back with the group even if there’s still no timeline for his return to the game.

“Words cannot express how happy I am.”

Andersen, who has been away since early November, was required to manage a procedure that, to be honest, he knew very little about before to receiving the diagnosis.

It was horrible. The goaltender went on, “It was something new right away that I obviously hadn’t dealt with before.” “[I was] just trying to get educated as much as I can to understand the situation I’m in and then lean on the great team of doctors that I’ve seen, taking their advice and their recommendations, then making a decision with the team.”

Since the 2021–22 regular season began, Andersen has appeared in 92 games for the squad, going 60–26-4 with a.914 save percentage. That figure is tied for ninth place among all NHL goalies with the most saves.

Rod Brind’Amour provided an update on Antti Raanta today as well, and the squad is patiently waiting for Andersen to return fully.

“He was skating yesterday, Tuesday. When asked how he was doing, the head coach said, “He’s definitely better than he was when we left for (last week’s three-game) trip.”

After suffering an injury during the team’s February 8 game against the Colorado Avalanche, the veteran’s original status was listed as “a few weeks, at least.”

The Canes hold their Pride Night, presented by UNC Health, at PNC Arena on Thursday when they play the Florida Panthers.
