Arizona State Women’s Basketball Head Coach Jeff Mittie ‘Rejoices’ as Elisha Davis Returns to Retire in Arizona

TEMPE, AZ — Arizona State Women’s Basketball Head Coach Jeff Mittie expressed his excitement and joy as former standout shooting guard Elisha Davis announced her return to the program to retire in Tempe. Davis, who made an indelible mark on the team during her playing career, has signed a five-month contract to officially close out her professional career with the Sun Devils.

Davis, who played at Arizona State from 2011 to 2015, was known for her scoring ability, leadership, and clutch performances. Throughout her college career, she helped the Sun Devils reach several NCAA tournaments and cemented herself as one of the program’s most prolific players. After a successful professional career overseas, Davis decided to return to Arizona State to retire where it all began for her.

“I am beyond excited to welcome Elisha back to the program,” said Mittie, who took over as head coach in 2024. “Her contributions to Arizona State women’s basketball are immeasurable, and her leadership on and off the court has been an inspiration to countless players. Watching her grow as both a player and a person has been an honor, and I am thrilled that she has chosen to return home.”

Davis, who holds multiple school records, shared her excitement about rejoining the Sun Devils and the opportunity to give back to the program that helped shape her career. “Arizona State is where it all started for me, and it’s only fitting that I end my basketball career here,” said Davis. “I’ve always felt the love and support from the coaches, teammates, and fans, and I’m looking forward to helping the next generation of Sun Devils.”

The five-month contract allows Davis to officially retire from the sport in a ceremony that will take place at the end of the season, marking the close of an era for one of Arizona State’s most beloved players.
