The Los Angeles Dodgers and two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani have reached an agreement on the largest-ever Major League Baseball contract to date—a 10-year, $700 million deal. The Cubs were one of the teams trying to sign Ohtani, but they were unsuccessful in their pursuit of him for the second time.
The 29-year-old Ohtani made the announcement on Instagram on Saturday, and his agent, Nez Balelo, verified the details of the agreement.
Balelo released a statement saying, “This is a unique, historic contract for a unique, historic player.”
