Devis Vasquez may be leaving Sheffield Wednesday, according to manager Danny Röhl, after he was benched against Cardiff City.
Cameron Dawson turned into a star on Saturday night, saving two penalties in the Owls’ FA Cup victory at Hillsborough. The goalie also made several other excellent saves en route to another clean sheet while playing for Wednesday.
Though he was left out of the squad entirely in favor of young Pierce Charles, there was talk about his teammate, who is on loan from AC Milan, before the game. Given his lack of playing time in England, it sounds like there may be plans for him to return to Italy.
Röhl didn’t state unequivocally that his backup goalie would be leaving, but there was definitely a nudge in that direction.
After his team’s 4-0 victory, he said to The Star, “Let’s have a look. It’s possible that something occurs, but I won’t talk about it today. We’ll examine this throughout the course of the following week, and I believe we’ll reach a judgment early on.
The 25-year-old Colombian was at the Hillsborough game on Saturday night even though he was not included in the matchday squad. It will be fascinating to see if this is the last time the former Guarani player visits S6 following a difficult loan stint.
