Orlando City SC Announces Departure of Five Players Ahead of New Season
Orlando City SC has announced the departure of five players from the team as the club begins preparations for the upcoming Major League Soccer (MLS) season. The departures mark a shift in the team’s roster strategy as Head Coach Oscar Pareja looks to strengthen the squad with fresh talent and new signings.
The five players leaving the club include midfielder Sebas Méndez, forward Benji Michel, defender João Moutinho, goalkeeper Adam Grinwis, and midfielder Santiago Patiño. These moves come as Orlando City SC aims to remain competitive in the fiercely contested Eastern Conference of MLS.
Sebas Méndez, a key figure in Orlando’s midfield, made 64 appearances over four seasons with the Lions. His defensive prowess and passing ability earned him a reputation as a reliable presence in the midfield. However, following discussions with the club’s management, both sides agreed that it was time for the Ecuadorian international to seek new challenges elsewhere.
Benji Michel, who came up through Orlando’s academy, also departs after a solid stint with the first team. Michel contributed several crucial goals and assists during his time with the Lions but has now decided to explore new opportunities for continued growth.
João Moutinho, another regular starter for Orlando, has seen his tenure come to a close after three seasons with the club. Moutinho was an essential part of the backline, known for his ability to push forward and contribute to the attack.
Goalkeeper Adam Grinwis and midfielder Santiago Patiño round out the departures, with both players being unable to secure consistent starting roles in recent seasons.
As Orlando City SC moves forward, the club will look to replace these key departures with new talent to ensure continued success in the 2024 season and beyond.
