Penrith Panthers Bring Back Former Player Spencer Leniu

In a major move for the Penrith Panthers, the club has re-signed former forward Spencer Leniu, bringing the 23-year-old back to the team after a brief spell with the Sydney Roosters. Leniu, who played a crucial role in Penrith’s back-to-back NRL Premierships in 2021 and 2022, is set to return to the club ahead of the 2024 season, in what is being hailed as a significant boost to the Panthers’ forward pack.

Leniu originally left Penrith after securing a three-year deal with Melbourne, a move that sparked anticipation about his potential to develop into one of the competition’s top props under Craig Bellamy’s guidance. However, following a mixed tenure with the Storm, Leniu has now decided to return to the team where his NRL career began. The signing is expected to add considerable depth to the Panthers’ forward rotation, particularly as they look to defend their dominance in the NRL after another impressive campaign in 2023.

Known for his explosive running, strong defensive work, and relentless energy off the bench, Leniu has always been a fan favorite at Penrith. His return is also seen as a natural fit, with the club’s forward stocks benefiting from his powerful impact in both attack and defense.

Penrith Panthers’ coach Ivan Cleary expressed his excitement about Leniu’s return, citing his maturity and leadership as qualities that will help strengthen the squad. “Spencer has always been a key part of our success, and we’re thrilled to welcome him back. He’s grown both on and off the field, and his experience will be invaluable as we continue to challenge for premierships.”

Leniu’s return to Penrith adds another layer of depth to an already formidable team, as the Panthers aim to build on their recent success and continue their quest for another NRL title.
