Norfolk State University Head Coach Dawson Odums Addresses Team’s Struggles, Speaks on Otto Kuhns’ Performance

Norfolk, VA – Norfolk State University’s head football coach, Dawson Odums, publicly acknowledged the team’s recent performance struggles, offering a candid assessment of their ongoing challenges. In a press conference on Monday, Odums stated that while the entire team shares responsibility for the lack of success, it is “hard not to blame” quarterback Otto Kuhns for much of the team’s current form.

Kuhns, a senior and one of the key leaders for the Spartans, has faced increasing scrutiny following a series of lackluster performances. The quarterback, who has been a cornerstone of the offense in previous seasons, has struggled with consistency in recent games. Norfolk State has now dropped several games in a row, and much of the criticism has been directed at Kuhns’ decision-making, accuracy, and overall command of the offense.

“I’m not one to single out players, but it’s hard not to blame Otto when the offensive unit isn’t performing at the level we expect,” Odums explained. “Football is a team game, and there are always things that go wrong in every loss, but Otto is the guy touching the ball on every play, and his execution directly impacts how the offense functions.”

Despite the criticism, Odums made it clear that Kuhns is not solely responsible for the Spartans’ struggles. He emphasized that a lack of offensive line protection, missed opportunities in the receiving game, and defensive lapses have also played a significant role in the team’s downturn.

“We’re all in this together,” Odums continued. “Otto knows that, and we’re working hard as a team to address the issues and get back to playing Spartan football.”

With the season in its final stretch, Norfolk State will look to make adjustments and find a way to turn their fortunes around, starting with their next matchup against a tough opponent on Saturday.
