NAWAQANITAWASE VOWS ROOSTERS GIVE AWAY SURPRISE GIFT BEFORE RUGBY EXIT

Wallabies-bound Mark Nawaqanitawase has announced a surprise giveaway for fans as he prepares to depart the Sydney Roosters for rugby union, with the first 4000 supporters through the gates at the club’s next home game set to receive a special commemorative gift. The star winger has made it clear this gesture is part of his final mission in the NRL – to deliver a lasting thank you to the Roosters faithful who backed him through a breakout career in league.

Nawaqanitawase, who will switch codes at the end of the current campaign, enjoyed a spectacular start to his rugby league journey with the Roosters, particularly during the 2025 season when he cemented his place as one of the NRL’s elite wingers. What began with initial controversy over his rookie status quickly transformed into widespread acclaim as he made an immediate impact on the field.

His performances were defined by high-volume try-scoring, elite aerial abilities that made him a constant threat under the high ball, and a sensational four-pointer that has been labelled a “try of the decade” contender. The play, which saw him beat three defenders before executing a breathtaking inside pass and regathering to cross the line, was named among the season’s top moments and remains a highlight of his league career.

In a message to fans, Nawaqanitawase said the giveaway was his way of acknowledging the role they played in his development. “When I first arrived at the Roosters, there were questions about whether I could make the grade in rugby league,” he said. “The fans stuck by me every step of the way, cheering us on through every win and lifting us up during the tough moments. This gift is for them – a small token of my gratitude for making my time in the NRL so special.”

The club has confirmed the surprise item will be a limited-edition print featuring imagery from his standout 2025 season, including the iconic try that earned him nationwide recognition. Roosters chief executive Joe Kelly praised Nawaqanitawase for his commitment to the fan base as he prepares for his next chapter.

“Mark has been an incredible representative of the Sydney Roosters both on and off the field,” Kelly said. “This surprise giveaway is typical of his character – always thinking about others and wanting to give back to the community that supported him.”
